A WordPress site that turned into a monthly retainer

This one started as a site build with a learning app attached and turned into a standing monthly arrangement to keep everything maintained. By value it's the largest single contract in my Upwork history.

The objective

The first contract covered work on the client's WordPress site plus the web version of a learning application they run.

After that they didn't want a string of separate jobs. They wanted a fixed monthly arrangement: the site gets looked after, whatever comes up gets handled, and nobody has to negotiate a new contract every time something needs doing.

What I did

I finished the initial site and learning-application work, then moved onto a monthly retainer covering the ongoing side: content and layout changes, plugin and core updates, and fixing whatever broke or came up.

We kept it running for months at a stretch instead of closing and reopening contracts.

The result

The whole relationship ran on a fixed monthly fee, and it became the largest contract by value I've had on Upwork.
