A 1.2 GB French forum upgraded twice
Two version upgrades three years apart on the same French-language board. The first one carried a 1.2 GB database and a set of installed mods across with it.
A forum going down under bot traffic
A sports community board kept falling over, and the hosting company's line was that it used too many resources. The load was actually coming from crawlers hammering search, not from members.
A forum brought back after a malware cleanup
A web agency had already removed the infection and restored the system. What was left was an outdated forum that needed upgrading and a purchased theme that needed installing on it.
Mailboxes moved to Google Workspace with the DNS to match
A customer's mail moved off shared hosting onto Google Workspace, including addresses that were separate mailboxes on one side and aliases into a single inbox on the other.
A 200,000-post forum taken from phpBB 3.0.8 to 3.3.5
A large board on an outdated version, with a custom theme and custom plugins, moved forward across several major releases in one go.
A forum to MailChimp sync that stopped resending the whole list
A custom extension pushed every forum member's email address to MailChimp on every run. I changed it to send only the addresses added since the last push.
