Case studies
Each one is a full write-up of what the client needed, what I did and how it turned out. These are selected projects, not a complete list. Repeat work of the same kind is written up once rather than every time.
Taking over a phpBB forum that wouldn't load on mobile
A forum with a long list of problems, the first being a mobile version that didn't load at all. Fixing it turned into four contracts and three years of running the board.
A French community moved off a hosted forum provider
A film community's forum was running on a free hosted service, on somebody else's domain. I rebuilt it on their own site with the same structure, then later gave it its own database.
An old board rebuilt on phpBB 3.3 with its data carried over
A phpBB 3.0.14 site with an old theme and a set of mods that no longer ran on current versions. The client was open to either an in-place upgrade or a fresh install with the data moved in.
A WordPress theme rebuilt as a phpBB style
A magazine's WordPress design turned into a phpBB3 style, delivered as an installable style package the client could put on the board themselves.
Changing how phpBB numbers posts when one is deleted
A change to core behaviour so that deleting a post leaves its number in place instead of renumbering everything after it.
An upgrade where the custom user management had to survive
A training company's forum upgraded from phpBB 3.0.13 to current, with the manual user-adding function their enrolment process depends on kept intact, and a tested backup taken first.
